News – 10 May 2012

It is a pleasure to be able to open this first post with the announcement of my upcoming show at the Toursky Theatre  in Marseille, France, later this year, sometime in mid-October, the exact date still to be announced. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you there! (Air-fare and accommodation not included) Through the help of family and contacts in France we have been able to set up this show, my first in Europe, and the first step toward entering the European art world.

“The Theatre Toursky in Marseille”

The show itself will be a mix of medium sized (15×22 – 38x56cm) collage and drawing – all works on paper, as well as a handful of large paintings, which we will be having shipped over. I don’t know which ones or how many for sure yet, but one of them is certain to be ‘Primavera’, as this one has been getting a lot of favorable comments from over there and they are excited to have it as part of the show.

“Primavera”

As for this blog, well, of course I’ll be providing news about my art, the occasional look at other artists, some recommendations, links, insights into the art world, maybe a glimpse or two behind the scenes, and of course, lots and lots of images to keep those ravenous eyes of yours sated.

But I am also going to be giving lessons in drawing, real, practical lessons aimed at helping the hesitant beginner unleash the confident artist within and set them out on the road to creativity and self expression.

Take a look at the following drawings. I’ve chosen these so you can see that drawing well is not beyond you:

“Detail from a drawing by Vancouver artist B.C. Binning”

“Landscape by Pierre Bonnard”

“Drawing from Tunis by Auguste Macke”

“Drawing by Albert Marquet”

“Drawing – Henri Matisse”

Follow my drawing lessons, and you won’t end up frustrated, like the poor artist in this drawing by Saul Steinberg:

“Drawing – Saul Steinberg”

So mark this blog as one of your favorites and be sure to drop into this site from time to time for news and features. I will be sending out notices when important postings come up. Don’t hesitate to send links to your friends and anybody you think would be interested in what’s going on here. I welcome all your comments, questions, and suggestions for topics and such. Your feedback will help shape many posts to come.

Talk to you soon!

Frank – Congratulations on your show in Marseille! I’m so happy that you are spreading your talent abroad!
I really enjoyed your blog and all the drawings by some of the modern Masters ( I also consider you one of them!)

Let me congratulate you once more, Frank. I’m excited on your behalf, and I’m sure you’ll be successfull. ‘Primavera’ is my favorite, too, so I’m glad you’ll exhibit in Marseilles. If you end up with some free space on one wall, I offer to fill it with a couple of my works. Thi-hi! That would be fun. I agree, looking at the drawings above, I could be encouraged to do some more drawing. But I know it looks easier than it is. It takes lots of imagination and a visual mind, not only the ability to hold a pen(cil). Smile
